Business Side....
Over time, technology has changed the advertising industry drastically. With access to consumer information, which is easier to collect over the internet companies are customizing their ads toward specific audiences, and even connecting ads to cell phones. Technology opened so many doors for the adverting business, with this type of technology ads and commercials appeal to a specific audience, congregate different values and contain different esthetics. The internet has become a major part of the communication community. Web surfer can interact with ads and can benefit directly from an ad because of personalized messages.
With such advanced technology it’s become a lot easier for advertiser and companies to target a specific age, gender and it’s also make it easier to interact and have more of a personal relationship with the consumer.
Creative side…
Ads from the 50s followed the typical old style of live were women were looked at like they should be at home with the children, cooking, cleaning, and preparing a good home for her husband. Men and women are not looked at from the same stand points at all. I feel that the woman also get the stereotypical role in the advertisements. In the 50’s ads copy was simple and the ads in general just lack a lot of creative thought. Ads now are much more revealing in a lot of different ways than ads in early times did. Clothes reveal much more skin than they ever have, curse words are written out and sex is promoted a lot. This would have been a big NO! in the 50s.
Yes risky ads would be a bog no in the 50's but that's because of its time. Like everything... things have evolved and have changed as society has. What was acceptable then, is just like what is acceptable now.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the creative work back then.
ReplyDeleteThe creative appeal was definitely lacking and flat. Looking at creative now, it's just so out there and some of the advertisements are so clever and stick out.
